Whole-System
Healing
Shoshannah works holistically with mind, body, nervous system, and relationships - addressing root causes, not just symptoms.
Expertise in Complex
& Chronic Patterns
Specialises in anxiety, trauma, chronic health issues, nervous system sensitivity, and family/relationship dynamics - especially when standard methods haven’t worked.
Integrated,
Lasting Change

Complex chronic illness can involve several interconnected biological systems, making it difficult to understand why symptoms persist or why treatments have failed to produce lasting improvements. Conventional medicine frequently approaches disease mechanistically, treating individual symptoms and conditions in isolation. Patients can find themselves moving from one specialist to another, accumulating diagnoses and prescriptions, while no one is looking at the whole person. Each additional medication may bring further side effects, sometimes creating an increasingly complicated picture of illness.
I work upstream, investigating the root causes of illness and identifying functional imbalances before they develop into established disease states or progress further. Chronic fatigue, digestive disturbances, neurological symptoms, hormonal imbalances, inflammation and medication sensitivities may share underlying physiological contributors. By exploring the relationships between these symptoms, I aim to understand where the difficulties began, how different systems are influencing one another and what may be preventing the body from functioning optimally.
Using functional medicine, advanced laboratory investigations and Lifecode Gx genetic testing, I examine the biochemical pathways that influence health and disease. These include methylation, mitochondrial function, nutrient metabolism, detoxification, inflammatory regulation and oxidative stress. Genetic variations involving MTHFR, MTR, MTRR, COMT and the CYP450 enzyme family can offer insights into individual differences in nutrient metabolism, neurotransmitter regulation and the processing of certain medications. These findings, considered alongside a patient's history, symptoms and biochemical investigations, help build a more comprehensive picture of their health.
Medication interactions are an important consideration, particularly for patients taking several prescriptions over many years. Certain medications, including proton pump inhibitors and metformin, can interfere with the absorption or metabolism of essential nutrients, while others may contribute to fatigue, cognitive difficulties, digestive disturbances or additional symptoms. I explore how medication effects, nutritional deficiencies and genetic predispositions may interact, potentially perpetuating the very difficulties for which patients originally sought treatment.
Depending on the individual, investigations may include gastrointestinal and microbiome testing, organic acids analysis, hormonal assessments and nutritional and metabolic markers. By bringing these findings together, I develop personalised programmes incorporating nutritional interventions, targeted supplementation and other therapeutic approaches designed to support the body's interconnected systems and address potentially modifiable contributors to illness.
My background in psychotherapy adds an important dimension to this work. Prolonged stress, emotional trauma and difficult life experiences can influence physiological function, while chronic physical illness can profoundly affect psychological wellbeing. With 35 years of clinical experience, I bring these perspectives together, recognising the complex relationship between mind and body. My work is fundamentally about understanding the whole person, identifying the roots of dysfunction and supporting the body's capacity to regain balance, resilience and better health.
