Carcinosin, TNF and Inflammation: A Homeopath’s Reflection on Meaning, Immunity and the Nervous System
Carcinosin, TNF and Inflammation: A Homeopath’s Reflection on Meaning, Immunity and the Nervous System

I am so grateful to call myself a Homeopath. I discovered homeopathy 35 years ago, and it literally saved my life. I wanted to share about a particular remedy that I take when I need to, and when the signs are there that my system needs it. The remedy matches me 'constitutionally' - which means mentally, emotionally and physically, it carries an imprint similar to how I think, feel and live in our world. I am an empath, I absorb too much and I feel passionately and deeply.

Homeopathy is an individualised system of medicine, and remedies, potencies and frequency need to be chosen in context and by a professional homeopath. When people wish to explore that terrain, they come and see me so we can do it properly. What I am writing here is a personal reflection on my own experience, and an exploration of how I understand it through both homeopathy and genetics. I am not suggesting you take this remedy, or any other. It is not an easy thing to see yourself objectively and homeopathy is actually very complicated. Anyway, back to what I want to share with you today, which is unique as I combine both homeopathy with genetic pathways and it gives me a unique perspective.

Within my Lifecode Nervous System report, I discovered that I have an upregulated TNF pathway. Tumour necrosis factor is one of the body’s key inflammatory cytokines. When it runs high, the system feels hot, activated, restless. It can influence joints, tissues, mood, sleep and that subtle background sense of being on alert. In my own terrain, this tendency towards inflammation sits alongside a sensitivity to stress and a strong internal drive. I know this not only from my genetic data but from a lifetime of embodied experience. The key symptom I get that tells me I need a repeat dose is when my eyes become sore and I get red patches underneath them, particularly my right eye.

When I take Carcinosin in high potency, something shifts. My inflammation settles. My sleep deepens. There is a sense of systemic exhale. The question that fascinates me is not whether a measurable molecule is directly calming my TNF, because in high potency there is no measurable molecule in the conventional pharmacological sense. The more interesting question is what changes in the organism as a whole.

Homeopathy works with the principle of resonance. We match the remedy picture to the person’s constitutional pattern, not simply to a diagnosis. Carcinosin is often associated in homeopathic literature with themes of over responsibility, high sensitivity, inherited burdens, perfectionism and suppression of emotion. Whether one sees these as archetypal patterns or as psychological tendencies, they map intriguingly onto the physiology of chronic inflammatory activation. A system that is constantly vigilant, constantly striving, constantly containing, will often carry a raised inflammatory tone.

If a remedy truly matches the inner pattern, it may allow the organism to reorganise. That reorganisation may express itself as improved sleep, reduced pain, softer mood, lower reactivity. From a psychoneuroimmunological perspective, when the nervous system shifts from sympathetic vigilance towards parasympathetic regulation, inflammatory cytokines including TNF can decrease. The vagus nerve has a well documented role in modulating inflammatory responses. A deeper, safer state internally can translate into measurable immune changes.

The remedy acts as a signal to my system. It carries a narrative and an archetypal coherence that my body recognises. That recognition permits a shift. The shift alters my nervous system tone. The altered tone modulates immune signalling. The outcome is less inflammation and better sleep. The body does not separate story from cytokine. Meaning is biology. Perception is chemistry. Regulation is immunology.

In my practice I work with genetics - nervous system, methylation, detoxification pathways, hormones and inflammatory signalling, I do not see homeopathy as separate from physiology. I see it as working at the level of pattern recognition and systemic regulation. The genome expresses within an environment. That environment includes stress, thought, relationship, identity and inherited emotional themes. If a remedy shifts the internal environment, gene expression can change downstream.

When inflammation softens, when sleep returns after a fragmented night, when the body feels less inflamed and more coherent, something meaningful has happened. Homeopathy at its best invites the organism back into alignment with itself. It does not force. It does not suppress. It nudges the system towards integration via our innate vital force.

Occasional high doses of Carcinosin is part of that integration for me personally. It is a reminder that our inflammatory pathways are not merely mechanical faults. They are expressions of how we have lived, adapted, carried, coped and survived. When the right signal is offered, the body can choose differently.

That is the depth and beauty of homeopathy. It honours the whole terrain, from genes to nervous system to story. And when it resonates, the results can feel both subtle and profound.

Are you a little curious about what homeopathy can do for you?

About Shoshannah

Hi, my name is Shoshannah Phoenix. I work with individuals, couples, and families, especially where things feel complicated, tangled, or hard to make sense of.

My work uniquely blends talking therapy, my own mindscaping, functional medicine, cutting edge genetic testing, and natural holistic solutions to whatever ails you. I help people understand how their nervous system, body, thoughts, emotions, and relationships are connected - and how these patterns shape health, behaviour, and connection over time.

Many of the people I work with have complex or long-standing challenges. They may be living with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, OCD, trauma, chronic stress, complex health issues, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties, or patterns that seem to repeat across generations. Rather than looking at one piece in isolation, I work with the whole picture.

This is gentle, collaborative work. We move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, working with your system rather than pushing it. Whether we are working one-to-one or with couples and families, my role is to help you understand yourself more clearly, feel more regulated and supported, and find a way forward that truly fits you.
